In a three-day sale this past weekend, Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. brought in $11.1 million, selling 100% of the 3,960 lots offered. The sale attracted interest from around the globe with bidders hailing from across the U.S. as well as Hong Kong, Denmark, Japan, Switzerland, Canada, China, Brazil, Taiwan, and more. While the auction room was filled with bidders, many more bid via Hart Davis Hart’s revolutionary auction website and mobile app.

The September auction featured treasures from virtually every wine region. Over 38% of all lots sold above their high estimates, with many achieving astonishing prices. Burgundy prices overall were strong, bringing in $6 million. A magnum of 1971 Richebourg, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti sold for $26,290 (lot 2855, est. $14,000-20,000); 12 bottles of 1999 Clos Vougeot, Domaine Leroy brought in $38,240 (lot 3102, est. $20,000-30,000); a full case of 1999 Romanée-St-Vivant, Domaine Leroy garnered $65,725 (lot 3103, est. $38,000-55,000); and 3 bottles of 2016 La Romanée Comte Liger-Belair sold for a record price of $20,315 (lot 2427, est. $9,500-14,000).

Bordeaux saw strong results as well with 6 bottles of 1990 Château Margaux garnering $8,365 (lot 206, est. $4,500-6,500); a double-magnum of 1990 Château Pétrus selling for $19,120 (lot 922, est. $10,000-15,000); and 12 bottles of 1998 Château Cheval Blanc bringing in $13,145 (est. $6,000-9,000), a record price for the St-Emilion.

Champagne and Red Rhône performed well bringing in $456,000 and $654,000 respectively. Highlights include a single bottle of 1943 Salon which garnered $7,170 (lot 3162, est. $3,000-4,500); 3 magnums of 1989 Krug, Clos du Mesnil which brought in a record $14,340 (lot 3159, est. $7,500-11,000); a full case of 1976 Côte Rôtie, La Mouline, Guigal which sold for $41,825 (lot 3127, est. $24,000-35,000); and 6 bottles of 1991 Ermitage, Cuvée Cathelin, J. L. Chave which garnered $53,775 (lot 3130, est. $30,000-45,000); 

Hart Davis Hart’s next live auction, A Celebration of Bordeaux, will be hosted on November 15 & 16 and feature the distinguished wines from the region. In the interim, HDH will hold a fantastic Mobile-Only Auction of Finest & Rarest Wines on October 16, 17 & 18.
