Hart Davis Hart’s Annual Burgundy Auction Brings In $7.6 million, 100% Sold
Worldwide Bidding Delivers Record Prices

Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. continued its auction season over the weekend with its annual Burgundy-only auction. The two day sale brought in $7.6 million against a pre-sale estimate of $4.8-7.3 million. Bidders from five continents participated and 62% of the lots sold at or above the high end of the estimates. All of the 2,513 lots sold, and many set new world records.

Bidders competed for mature bottles and large formats. Examples include 4 bottles of 1983 Grands-Echézeaux, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti which brought in $7,170 (lot 1796, est. $3,500-5,500) while a 3-liter jeroboam of 2005 Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Armand Rousseau sold for $23,900 (lot 629, est. $12,000-18,000) and a magnum of 2014 Clos Saint-Denis, Domaine Dujac garnered $1,195 (lot 1836, est. $500-750).

Young Burgundy also performed well. Highlights include 6 bottles of 2010 Volnay, Clos des Chênes, Michel Lafarge which garnered $4,780 (lot 2127, est. $1,100-1,700); 6 bottles of 2011 Echézeaux, du Dessus, Cécile Tremblay which brought in $4,541 (lot 637, est. $1,300-1,900); and 6 bottles of 2016 Chambertin, Armand Rousseau which sold for $23,900 (lot 1835, est. $11,000-17,000).


White Burgundy lovers clamored over 6 bottles of 2010 Chablis, Les Clos, Domaine Raveneau which garnered $9,560 (lot 769, est. $3,000-4,500) and 6 bottles of 2011 Meursault, La Seve du Clos, Arnaud Ente which brought in $6,572 (lot 892, est. $2,600-3,800).


Additional lots that broke world records include:
  • 3 bottles of 1978 Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos St-Jacques, Pernot-Fourrier sold for $2,629 (lot 412, est. $650-950)
  • 6 bottles of 2005 Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Prieure-Roch sold for $7,170 (lot 910, est. $3,000-4,500)
  • 6 bottles of 2001 Vosne-Romanée, Brulees, Domaine Leroy sold for $11,352 (lot 1464, est. $6,000-9,000)
  • 6 bottles of 2002 Ruchottes-Chambertin, Domaine Georges Mugneret sold for $7,710 (lot 1501, est. $3,000-4,500)
  • 6 bottles of 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin, Armand Rousseau sold for $1,792 (lot 1616, est. $600-900)
  • 4 magnums of 2004 Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos St-Jacques, Armand Rousseau sold for $6,572 (lot 1617, est. $3,200-4,800)
  • 3 bottles of 2005 Vosne-Romanee, Clos de la Goillotte, Prieure-Roch sold for $8,365 (lot 2346, est. $2,400-3,500)
