Hart Davis Hart opened the 2020 auction season this weekend with a phenomenal February Auction of Finest and Rarest Wines, realizing $5,920,424 against a pre-sale estimate of $3,784,980- $5,661,660. Worldwide bidding was aggressive, with bidders participating from Brazil, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and, prominently, Hong Kong, which led to 67% of lots selling above their high estimate and 100% of lots sold. HDH staff at the state-of-the art warehouse at 250 Centerpoint Boulevard in New Castle, Delaware are already busy preparing winnings, as many successful bidders are planning to collect the week of March 2nd.

Wines from DRC achieved top prices, with the legendary Domaine taking seven of the ten top hammers. Prices were exceptionally strong across the Burgundy category as lot after lot sailed above their high estimates, including 8 bottles of 1970 Bonnes-Mares from Clair Dau, which brought in $11,353 (lot 1373, est. $1,700-2,600); 6 bottles of 1985 Montrachet, Pierre Morey which garnered $13,145 (lot 1381, est. $3,000-4,500); and 2 bottles of 1993 Chambertin, Domaine Leroy which sold for $15,535 (lot 1047, est. $9,000-14,000).

Additional diverse highlights from the weekend include a case of 1982 Lafite which sold for a record $33,460 (lot 1015, est. $18,000-28,000); 2 magnums of 1970 Château Pétrus which realized $20,315 (lot 1207, est. $10,000-$15,000); 1 bottle of 1720 Pather Madeira which brought in $15,535 (lot 203, est. $8,000-12,000); and 2 magnums of 1989 Barolo Riserva, Brunate from Giuseppe Rinaldi, which racked up an impressive $7,768 (lot 844, est. $1,600-2,400).

Paul Hart commented "We are extremely thrilled with the strength of this sale, and especially the strength of our Burgundy results. We hope to build on that momentum as we prepare for our April Celebration of Burgundy sale."

The annual Celebration of Burgundy auction sees consignments exclusively from that region and the deadline for consigning property is fast approaching.
